Here’s Tesla’s New Steering Wheel Controls–Wipers Too! [VIDEO]

Tesla’s latest 2023.12 software update started rolling out over a week ago, offering new controls from the steering wheel’s left scroll wheel button.

In the 2023.12 release notes, Scroll Wheel Customization says, “Do more with the left scroll button on the steering wheel. You can adjust settings like brightness and Acceleration Mode, or perform actions like toggling the Camera App, opening the glovebox, and saving Dashcam footage.”

You can also “Long press the left scroll button to bring up a list of functions and scroll through the list,” said Tesla. “To choose which function comes up by default, go to Controls > Display > Scroll Wheel Function.”

With software update 2023.12.1 that rollout out in Spain, Tesla owner u/cristianperlado shared a quick video on Reddit showcasing the new scroll wheel customization.

As you press the left scroll wheel button, a menu appears on the bottom card section of your vehicle’s display. From here you can scroll through a variety of customization settings such as temperature, fan speed, screen brightness, dashcam, acceleration mode, cameras, rear defrost, dome light, open glove box, or ‘none’.

Once you select an option, pressing the button then lets you change that particular setting with the scroll wheel. We see the car’s temperature being changed with the scroll wheel in the video, below:

Press the scroll wheel left brings back up the menu to select the setting you want again.

According to the Tesla owner, you can also now switch wiper speed with the scroll wheel button by pressing left or right, if you trigger the wipers in the car. This has been one of the biggest gripes when it comes to Tesla’s wipers (and the fact they have a mind of their own at times).

Here’s an image from the TFF-Forums that show the wiper controls from the steering wheel:
