In a new video shared by StartYourEnginesX on Thursday, the Tesla Model Y can be seen performing a series of wet swing brake tests in Japan, during which technicians gave the SUV a near “perfect score.”
Performed along with tests of a Mercedes-Benz EQB350 4Matic, and under the cooperation of executives from Tesla Japan, Mercedes-Benz Japan and the Akebono Brake Industry.
The tests have the Model Y and Mercedes vehicles approach from a completely dry road surface at 100 km/h (~62 mph) to a wet road surface set to 5mm, located on a curve with a 40-meter (~131 ft) radius.
The road surface requires a wet grip approach rather than hydroplaning, according to the video’s description of the tests.
The video shows the Model Y’s ability to come to a stop on the curved course, with the two tests showing the difference between using the steering wheel and brake at the same time and using just the brake.
The test operators went on to call the Model Y’s ability to stop across two separate tests “good,” adding that it had strong “stopping power and turning performance,” despite the wet conditions.
You can see the full video of the Model Y wet swing brake tests below, along with commentary from the tests’ operators.

Other tests with the Model Y were also performed by the channel, including a double lane change, or ‘Moose Test’, which you can see below:

Here is another test of “High Speed Riding” with the Model Y as well:
