Drag Race: Tesla Model X Plaid vs. World’s Quickest SUVs [VIDEO]
Tesla’s Model X Plaid is one of the world’s quickest SUVs, even amongst traditional gas cars.
A new video from carwow shared earlier this month shows a drag race featuring the Tesla Model X Plaid, the Lamborghini Urus Performante, the BMW X5m, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and an AMG GLE 63.
The video calls the vehicles the “world’s quickest SUVs,” showing off the quick acceleration of each vehicle in a fairly tight face-off.
The Tesla Model X Plaid has a combined-motor total of 1,020hp and 1,020Nm, weighing about 5,511 pounds (2,500kg).
Comparatively, the Urus has a 4-liter V8 gas engine offering 666hp and 850Nm, weighing just 4,739 lbs (2,150kg).
All of the cars are powered by traditional gas engines, with the exception of the Tesla Model X Plaid.
The video shows three drag races between the five vehicles, showing a fairly tight race between the internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.
The video comes after Tesla launched the Model S and X Plaid in Europe in December, and after the Model X Plaid beat the fastest Porsche in production in a race last June — even with six passengers inside the car.
You can watch the full drag race session below, notably featuring the Tesla Model X Plaid and the Lamborghini Urus Performante. As expected, the Model X Plaid slaps all of these luxury performance SUVs and wins easily in all the races.
It’s also worth noting the Model X Plaid was the only SUV with winter tires on during the races, while the others were on summer tires. This clearly affected the braking distance test for the Model X Plaid. Nonetheless, the Tesla still wins, even on softer winter tires:
