MKBHD Reviews Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Beta [VIDEO]
Popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) took Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) for a ride through New Jersey in a video shared on Wednesday. In the video, Brownlee is running the FSD beta version 2022.36.20 in his Model S Plaid.
Brownlee starts the video by driving through some downtown areas with the FSD beta system, saying he’s headed to the studio.
He also explains to viewers that he’ll likely have to intervene during the trip, calling highways FSD system’s “bread and butter,” compared to the busy downtown areas he starts off in.
Before long, Brownlee reaches some highways and the FSD system begins merging his car automatically, regulating the speed, and occasionally asking him to firmly touch the steering wheel — to be sure that the driver is being attentive. MKBHD says he only intervenes due to some embarrassment when FSD beta makes odd decisions, such as taking too much time to merge or make a turn.
He also describes potential future scenarios, imagining that it would be able to act like Lyft while you’re at work or at home and the car’s not in use, carting passengers around and potentially even making money for you. Still, Brownlee says the system isn’t quite that strong yet, but that it could be in the future. You can see his nervousness still after only having access to FSD beta for about two weeks.
The news comes in the weeks since Tesla has rolled out its FSD beta to public beta testers, allowing a far wider audience to test and interact with the self-driving system.
