Volkswagen shared its next-generation ID.3 on Friday, set to be fully unveiled to the public in the spring, according to a press release from the company.

Customers can order their next-generation ID.3 models now and can expect to receive deliveries from Q4 2023.

The new version of the Volkswagen ID.3 will initially be produced at the automaker’s Zwickau and Dresden plants in Germany, though the company plans to expand production to its Wolfsburg plant next year.

“The new ID.3 demonstrates our commitment to quality, design and sustainability. The design has matured, and we’ve upgraded the materials used in the interior”, says Volkswagen Board Member Imelda Labbé. “The needs of our customers are always front and centre for us. That’s why we listen carefully and focus on gearing our product portfolio to their requirements”, Labbé added.

The updated vehicle includes a 12-inch diagonal touchscreen, a removable luggage compartment floor and smart features such as Plug and Charge, an electric vehicle (EV) route planner app, Travel Assist, Park Assist and more. The interior shows two screens, with a larger center display that looks reminiscent of Tesla and very few, if any, buttons showing at all.

The rear of the ID.3 almost looks like a Volkswagen Golf, but in electric form.

The vehicle is set to come in one of five trim configurations, called the Life, Business, Style, Max and Tour models, with German customers able to pre-order from December 1, 2022.

“Due to the current supply situation for semiconductors and the existing order backlog, Volkswagen estimates that the ID.3 Pro models Life, Business, Style, Max and the ID.3 Pro S model Tour will not be delivered to customers before the fourth quarter of 2023,” says Volkswagen.

The ID.3 Life starting pricing is €43,995 ($46,315 USD). Volkswagen also has not yet shared the vehicle’s range, though it says it expects it to increase from the last-generation ID.3 by as much as two percent.
