Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, gave an interview with CNBC from the company’s current exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Von Holzhausen discusses the Cybertruck, how he got hired at Tesla and also having Elon Musk as a boss.

As for Cybertruck, he says it is a rare moment “where form followed function for first time,” adding it was born out of an idea of different way of manufacturing materials. The hardest part is outside of the truck, calling the vehicle a “Swiss Army Knife”. He said stainless steel is really tough to form, so that resulted in Tesla seeking new ways of manufacturing, as they can’t do compound curves with steel. The Cybertruck allows Tesla to “break paradigm of what trucks have been,” adding that the truck is very aerodynamic with its covered back.

He also teased his favourite Cybertruck feature “is one that is coming that he can’t talk about.” As for von Holzhausen’s current car? He’s driving a Model S Plaid.

Von Holzhausen is like Apple’s former chief designer Jony Ive to the late company co-founder Steve Jobs, who would be Elon Musk. They make an incredible duo together at Tesla.
