The all-electric automaker will hold an opening ceremony for the new location at 11 a.m. local time. It will be open to the public, and anyone can come by to test drive a Model Y, take a tour of the facility, and talk to the Danish Tesla team about the new entry-level Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD).
Tesla launched a Standard Range trim of the Model Y with a Rear-Wheel Drive setup and 276 miles of WLTP-rated range in Europe back in August. It is meant to be a budget offering, even undercutting the Model 3 in many countries.
The European Model Y RWD features lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the same ones found in the Model 3 RWD. LFP batteries can be charged to 100% and are cheaper and easier to maintain.
Tesla was expected to produce the Model Y RWD for the European market at its Gigafactories in Shanghai, China, and Berlin, Germany. First deliveries of the entry-level Model Y RWD variant are expected to start between November 2022 and February 2023 across Europe.
Tesla is also preparing a Model Y Standard Range with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration and 4680 batteries for the U.S. market, according to reports. This upcoming trim has already received EPA approval and is expected to launch in 2023.
