Elon Musk officially entered Twitter headquarters this week, and the billionaire entrepreneur has now provided more details on why he wanted to purchase the social media platform in the first place.

@ElonMusk posted multiple text screenshots on Thursday morning detailing his reasoning for acquiring Twitter, captioning the post “Dear Twitter Advertisers.”

The post ranged in subject matter from Musk’s specific ideas about purchasing the platform, how it should be moderated to avoid becoming a “free-for-all hellscape,” and more.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” said Musk in the series of screenshots.

“There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

In addition to the statement of purpose, Musk described traditional media as being in the “relentless pursuit of clicks,” in addition to explaining his feelings on advertising and spam.

The news comes after Musk shared a video of him entering the social media company’s headquarters with a literal sink, saying “let that sink in.” It also comes after his pledge to close the $44 purchase of the social media platform by a judge’s Friday deadline.
