Tesla Offering Free Upgrades to New Giga Berlin Paint Colors
Years ago, Tesla’s Elon Musk claimed Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg would have the “world’s most advanced paint shop,” and now some customers are gaining the option for free paint upgrades from the facility.
Tesla is offering free paint upgrades for customers in Germany, according to emails to customers receiving their vehicles from Giga Berlin and a dedicated page detailing the new paint colors on its website (via @Model Y Owners and @Tesla_Adri).
The automaker is offering upgrades to its colors Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver, both of which are being developed at the Giga Berlin paint shop, only available to Long Range and Performance trims of the Model Y. The entry RWD Model Y gets regular colors available in the U.S.; the two new colours are only available for Europe and the Middle East, says Tesla.
“We’ve updated your Model Y order to our newest color, Quicksilver,” reads an email from Tesla, shared by @ModelYOwnerDACH on Friday morning.

On its website, as translated from German, Tesla calls Midnight Cherry Red “an intense metallic finish with dramatic depth that changes spectrum with exposure to light.”
Similarly, it says Quicksilver is “a dynamic liquid metal effect paint that accentuates the Model Y’s shape.”
“Meet Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver. Developed in our state-of-the-art paint shop at the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, the colors are designed to accentuate your Model Y under any sky. From bright highlights to darker tones, our multicoat paint adds a new dimension that subtly changes with every curve as you walk around your Tesla,” says the electric automaker.

The news comes just a few days after Tesla’s Q3 earnings report, at which the automaker announced plans for Giga Berlin to get front-cast Model Y units and 4680 battery cells by the end of this year.
Earlier this month, Tesla’s Giga Berlin reached a milestone of 2,000 Model Y units built per week as the automaker continues to ramp up production after opening earlier this year.
