Tesla has launched two new paint colors exclusively offered at its Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany, available for Model Y Long Range and Performance trims for customers in Europe and the Middle East.

As for why Giga Berlin gains these two new colors only, and not the U.S., for example? Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Friday, “Only Giga Berlin can make these colors, as paint shop was specially built to apply many fine layers of paint, giving it complexity not otherwise possible.”

Back in the spring of 2020, Musk has said Giga Berlin would have the “world’s most advanced paint shop.”

But despite the Giga Berlin exclusive—what about offering a new paint color option for the U.S.? This question was asked today by @teslaownersSV to Musk, to which the CEO responded with a simple, “yes”. It’s unclear what this new color will be and when it would even debut.

In describing the new paint colors from Giga Berlin, Tesla says “Both are made from highly-pigmented metallic paint, designed to change depending on viewing angle & light.”

“Our most advanced paint system yet, allowing up to 13 layers for depth, dimension & a hand-painted look,” said Tesla last night.

Tesla is also offering free paint upgrades for existing orders in Germany to these new colors.

Currently, the free colors for the Model Y from Tesla are Pearl White Multi-coat and Midnight Silver Metallic, which has resulted in a sea of white and dark silver vehicles flooding cities worldwide, as the compact crossover SUV continues to surge in popularity.
