Jeep Avenger EV Unveiled for Europe at Paris Auto Show
Stellantis unveiled its electric Jeep Avenger at the Paris Auto Show on Monday, offering both all-electric and gas versions of the car.
The Jeep Avenger, the company’s first EV, is expected to help the automaker double its European sales to 300,000, according to executives at the company (via Automotive News Europe).
The Avenger follows the Renegade as the automaker’s second vehicle in the small SUV category, which is also Europe’s largest auto segment. Additionally, the Avenger will be sold with the option for a combustion engine in certain markets across Europe. Annual production is expected at 100,000 units.
The new EV will have a 54-kilowatt hour battery, same as the upgraded Peugeot e-208 with up to 390 km (242 miles) range, while also have a heat pump. The car will have a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, plus 10.25-inch or 7-inch screens for in front of the driver. Options include leather seats, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
Last year, Jeep sold 128,698 vehicles in Europe, partially due to industry-wide issues with supply. The automaker saw record sales in Europe in 2018, delivering as many as 168,652 vehicles as detailed in figures by the ACEA.
“We have had a lot of issues with powertrains such as diesel not being adapted to the market, a lot of tax disadvantages and we ended up not getting the momentum we deserve,” said Jeep CEO Christian Meunier.
The Avenger will be produced at a Stellantis factory in Tychy, Poland alongside small crossover vehicles from sibling companies Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia.
Jeep unveiled the Avenger earlier this year, along with plans to begin launching the EV in 2023.
