‘Track Mode’ for Tesla Model Y Performance? ‘OK’ Says Elon Musk
It appears ‘Track Mode’ will be coming to the Model Y Performance variant, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
While ‘Track Mode’ is limited to the Model S Plaid and Model 3 Performance, it seems to be expanding now, according to Musk.
When asked by @teslaownersSV, “Can we get track mode for Model Y Performance?”, Musk replied, “This is harder than it sounds, but ok.”

Tesla introduced Track Mode for the Model S Plaid in January of this year.
“Track Mode, available only on Plaid Model S vehicles, is designed to modify the stability control, traction control, regenerative braking, and cooling systems to increase performance and handling while driving on closed circuit courses,” explains Tesla. “Track Mode improves cornering ability by intelligently using the motors, and regenerative and traditional braking systems. When enabled, the cooling system runs at an increased level during and after aggressive driving sessions to allow your vehicle’s systems to withstand the surplus heat,” says the automaker.
“In Track Mode, adaptive suspension damping is optimized for handling and vehicle body control to promote driver confidence in dynamic maneuvers. Ride height is automatically set to Low and the suspension no longer automatically raises for comfort over rough surfaces,” for the Model S Plaid.
As for Track Mode for the Model 3 Performance? Tesla says it is “designed to modify the stability control, traction control, regenerative braking, and cooling systems to increase performance and handling while driving on closed circuit courses.”
“Track Mode improves cornering ability by intelligently using the motors, and regenerative and traditional braking systems. When enabled, the cooling system runs at an increased level during and after aggressive driving sessions to allow your vehicle’s systems to withstand the surplus heat,” explains Tesla.
Back in February of this year, Musk said “ok” when someone asked if Tesla could add Track Mode to Model 3 and Model Y owners with the in-app Acceleration Boost upgrade.
Given that the Model Y is based the Model 3, Track Mode for the former may entail similarities as the latter. Musk did not give a timeline for when Track Mode would be available for the Model Y Performance, which starts at $69,990 USD. Current delivery estimates are showing October to November 2022.
