Tesla Launches Model Y RWD in Europe; Price Undercuts Model 3 in France
European customers can now purchase a new, entry-level Model Y configuration along with the Long-Range and Performance variants.
Tesla has made a rear-wheel-drive configuration of its Model Y available in Europe, as seen on the automaker’s website this week (via @ModelYOwnerDACH).
The Model Y is rated for 445km (~276 miles) from the Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and it starts at a price of €53,990 ($53,773 USD) in Germany.
For those in France, the Tesla Model Y RWD is priced from 49,990 euros, below the 50,000 mark, allowing the car to be eligible for 2,000 euros rebates, taking it down to 47,990 euros. Interestingly enough, this price means the Model Y is cheaper than the Model 3 in France, which starts from 53,490 euros (and doesn’t qualify for the rebate).
According to MacG, Tesla told the French publication these Model Y vehicles will be produced at Giga Shanghai and not Giga Berlin.
Also, it looks like the base Model Y RWD also undercuts the Model 3 in the Netherlands as well:

The electric SUV was first spotted for sale in Germany, where it has a price difference of €10,000-€15,000 from other European countries.
These Model Y vehicles will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, similarly found in the Model 3 RWD. LFP batteries can be charged to 100% and are cheaper and easier to maintain.
The current delivery timeline in Germany expects Model Y units to arrive between November 2022 and February 2023.
Earlier this month, the Tesla Model Y topped the Mercedes GLC to become Europe’s top-selling premium SUV.
Tesla’s Giga Berlin is reportedly aiming for 1,500 Model Y units per week, and the factory is targeting 3,000 Model Y units per week by October.
