Tesla Requests Judge Toss Out Racial Discrimination Case

Tesla and Elon Musk currently face several high-profile lawsuits, and the automaker is planning to request a judge to dismiss an ongoing racial discrimination case.

Tesla’s lawyers are expected to encourage a California judge to throw out an ongoing racial bias lawsuit, as reported by Reuters.

Oakland, California Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo is expected to hold a hearing on Tesla’s request.

The Department of Civil Rights (DCR) initially lodged the lawsuit, and the agency was called the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) up until last month.

After the original complaint was filed in February, Tesla sent a notice to employees and fans calling the DCR lawsuit “misguided.” In its recent bid, Tesla says the attacks are politically motivated.

The complaint claimed that Tesla’s Fremont, California factory was a racially segregated workplace, resulting in harassment and discrimination toward the automaker’s Black employees. The complaint said that Black employees had been discriminated against through pay, disciplinary measures and job assignments overall.

Tesla denies the claims and that racial segregation has taken place in the California factory.

A new trial was ordered in a separate racial bias case with Tesla, after a settlement was cut down from $137 million to $15 million and was subsequently refused by the plaintiff.
