Tesla Enhanced Autopilot to Return for Everyone? ‘OK’ Says Elon Musk
Last night, we reported Tesla had started offering its Enhanced Autopilot add-on for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea.
Enhanced Autopilot includes the standard Navigate on Autopilot feature, but adds Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon and Smart Summon. It’s available to purchase as an upgrade during the ordering of a Model 3 or Model Y, and through the Tesla mobile app under upgrades.
The feature was previously available in Canada and the U.S., but was removed. Now, it appears it may be returning for all markets, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
When asked by Trevor Page, “Tesla needs to bring this back for everyone, FSD is too expensive for what you get. Sell FSD as a second tier above EAP and still include basic AP with every car,” Musk replied with a simple “OK”.
It appears many Tesla owners would be happy to have extra Enhanced Autopilot features and not the entire FSD feature suite, with the latter’s highlight being Autosteer on city streets, which is currently in beta only in Canada and the U.S.
Tesla is offering Enhanced Autopilot for $5,100 AUD in Australia, which works out to roughly $4,611 USD as of writing.
While Musk replied “OK”, it’s unclear if and when Tesla will make Enhanced Autopilot available for all markets. Nonetheless, if it was available, an Enhanced Autopilot upgrade would add more revenue for Tesla. The option may hurt Full Self-Driving beta revenues though, as owners would only pay roughly half the cost of the latter for Enhanced Autopilot features; however a volume play of EAP upgrades may make up for any reduction in FSD purchases.
