Tesla USB Dashcam Fixed in 2022.12.3.16 Update, Say Owners

Since May, some Tesla owners have been dealing with a ‘Dashcam Unavailable’ error, which caused user flash drives to stop working and would require a format or re-insertion to fix.

For owners, it was tricky at times to see if the Dashcam was working or not, unless they had moved the icon to the lower vehicle button bar. A red dot indicates Dashcam is recording, while a red ‘x’ indicates there’s a problem.

In late May, Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged the ‘Dashcam Unavailable’ bug, saying “problem arose from optimizing application performance,” Musk added, “Use of Linux page cache caused increasing memory fragmentation, eventually preventing mounting of dashcam.”

Fast forward to last week, Tesla started rolling out its 2022.12.3.16 software update. After one week with the update, numerous Tesla owners with Model 3 vehicles on Facebook are saying the 2022.12.3.16 update has fixed the ‘Dashcam Unavailable’ USB error.

Many indicated they haven’t had to format their USB drives multiple times per day after installing 2022.12.3.16. Others with 2022.12.3.7.5 also indicated that had fixed the Dashcam USB bug.

Tesla North can confirm 2022.12.3.12 still suffers from the issue, but it hasn’t happened as frequently as it did before. But the problem is still there and not completely fixed.
