Tesla Constructing Largest Supercharger Yet with 100 Stalls in California

Tesla is months into building a 100-stall Supercharger, the electric vehicle (EV) pioneer’s largest U.S. installation yet, in the Mojave Desert — reports the Daily Press (via Teslarati)

The massive Supercharger station is being constructed on roughly four acres of desert near The Outlets at Barstow open-air retail mall in Barstow, California, a town located some 115 miles from Los Angeles and 156 miles from Las Vegas.

Barstow Mayor Paul Cortney announced the under-construction Supercharger during a city council meeting earlier this week, calling the project a “historic win” for the city.

Mayor Cortney added that Southern California Edison, South California’s primary electricity supply company, has promised to deliver excess power to the Supercharger station by May 30 to allow for the first leg of stations to go live.

Once completed, the Barstow Supercharger will dwarf Tesla’s current largest U.S. Supercharger — a 70-stall station also located in California, at The Outlets at Tejon, an open-air mall in the San Joaquin Valley. California is home to some of Tesla’s largest Superchargers, including a 56-stall location in the city of Firebaugh.

Back in February, @MarcoRPTesla, a sleuth of upcoming Supercharger locations, shared some images of construction of the site.

An existing Supercharger in Fresno County was previously expected to become Tesla’s largest in the U.S. following a planned expansion to 80 stalls. Construction on that project reportedly began last month.

As of the fourth quarter of 2021, Tesla’s global network of Superchargers consists of more than 3,500 locations, with over 31,500 stalls in total.
