Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y dominated EV sales in the U.S. for Q1, making up more than 5 percent of all cars sold in the country.
The automaker launched Tesla Model Y deliveries from Texas at its Cyber Rodeo event earlier this month, which was held to celebrate the launch of its Gigafactory Texas.
Tesla’s Texas-made Model Y units are cast in just two pieces, unlike the 171 pieces it takes to manufacture the Model 3 at the present time.
Most of these Model Y units also use Tesla’s 2170 battery cells and will for this year, before the automaker switches en masse to its next-generation 4680 battery cells — which have only been delivered with a few first edition Model Y units.
