Tesla China Announces Battery Design Competition for Cyberquad
Tesla has announced a battery design competition in China for its upcoming Cyberquad electric all-terrain vehicle (ATV), with prizes of up to RMB 200,000 ($30,490 USD) for winners — reports CnEVPost.
“The 2022 World Power Battery Congress, Power Battery Integration and Management Technology Challenge officially launches today,” reads the Tesla China poster, encouraging participants to “use your battery design to reimagine the future of mobility.”
As part of the challenge, competitors will use 2170 cells to design a battery system for the Cyberquad. The most impressive design will get the opportunity to actually be used in Tesla’s final production units.
Tesla unveiled the Cyberquad back in 2019 alongside the now heavily-delayed Cybertruck electric pickup. In late 2021, Tesla launched the Radio Flyer-made Cyberquad for Kids in the U.S., although the mini-Cyberquad quickly sold out and is currently out of stock.
The full-sized Cyberquad has been seen on display at some Tesla events and was even spotted in a promotional video for the Cyberquad for Kids. Deliveries of the Cyberquad are expected to begin around the same time as Tesla’s Cybertruck.
Tesla China’s battery design challenge is a three-month competition. Entries will be accepted between April 25 and May 18, the preliminary round will be held in Beijing from May 19 to 20, and all subsequent events will be held in Yibin, Sichuan.
According to Tesla China, entrants will receive technical guidance from six Tesla R&D experts, with 10 automotive and battery cell industry veterans providing feedback on the ideas.
The top 10 teams from the contest will receive cash prizes. The team that places first will win RMB 100,000 from the event and an additional RMB 100,000 from the Yibin Municipal Government, second place will receive a total of RMB 100,000, and a cumulative RMB 50,000 will be awarded to the team in third place.
