After Ford revealed plans to divide its company into branches dedicated to electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, the automaker has doubled down on its EV agenda with several new announcements.

Ford has unveiled concepts for nine all-electric vehicles it plans to release for the European market by 2024, as detailed in a new video and press release.

In addition, Ford expects to sell over 600,000 EVs in Europe by 2026 as part of its recently-announced Ford+ plan.

Ford will build three new passenger vehicles and four new commercial vehicles for Europe.

In 2023, Ford plans to build an all-new electric passenger vehicle, a medium-sized crossover with 500km range, plus a second electric vehicle added to the Cologne production line-up in 2024.

The top-selling European vehicle, the Ford Puma, will go electric, to be made in Craiova, Romania, starting in 2024.

The Ford Transit will get four new electric models: the all-new Transit Custom one-tonne van; Tourneo Custom multi-purpose vehicle in 2023; Transit Courier van and Tourneo Courier multi-purpose vehicle in 2024.

The release also confirmed Ford’s plans to build out an EV factory in Cologne, Germany, for which the automaker plans to invest around $2 billion to produce over 1.2 million vehicles over six years. A new battery plant is also set to start operations in Cologne in 2024.

Ford also signed a contract with SK On Co. Ltd., and Koç Holding to build a new battery production site in Turkey.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said, “I am delighted to see the pace of change in Europe – challenging our entire industry to build better, cleaner and more digital vehicles. Ford is all-in and moving fast to meet the demand in Europe and around the globe.”

The video shared was hosted by Ford Europe Chairman Stuart Rowley, and entailed a virtual presentation depicting the company’s move towards electric vehicles (EVs).
