Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are the Most Efficient EVs of 2022
As customers move towards the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), a new report has ranked which ones are most efficient, with Tesla taking the crown.
The Tesla Model 3 was rated the most efficient EV for 2022, followed by the Lucid Air in second and the Model Y in third, according to Auto Blog.
The efficiency index was based on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) miles-per-gallon-equivalent (mpge) rating, and a rough estimate of how expensive they are to fill per year.
The Tesla Model 3 has a 132 mpge rating while the Lucid Air is rated at 131 mpge and the Model Y at 129 mpge.
Each of the top three most efficient EVs has an estimated electricity cost of about $500 per year.
In a 3-way tie for fourth was the Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Kona and Tesla Model S, with the trio at 120 mpge and $550 per year in electricity costs.

Last month, Tesla’s Model 3 and Y units also earned spots on the Top Safety Pick+ Awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
A Consumer Reports survey held in the same month had the Ford Mustang Mach-E beating out the Tesla Model 3 as 2022’s top EV.
Still, the automaker’s vehicles are moving into a new category in a big way, with Tesla overtaking BMW for the most-registered U.S. luxury vehicle in January.
In November, Tesla had overtaken Mercedes-Benz for the number three spot in U.S. luxury registrations, before rising to the top heading into the new year.
