Tesla has again shared a video touting the installation of its Megapacks by Homer Electric, in Soldotna, Alaska. The video was shared last month but Tesla uploaded it to YouTube on Tuesday.

The video says Soldotna, located on the Kenai Peninsula, is cut off from mainland electricity up to four months of the year, due to extreme weather conditions. Homer Electric, says Tesla, relied on gas turbines to distribute power to the grid. But this all changed when a 93 MWh Megapack was installed.

Megapack is essentially a large, dense battery system made for enterprise applications, that can be scaled and quickly installed.

“In Soldotna, Alaska, gas turbines distribute power to the community up to 4 months a year. To add more renewable energy storage to the grid and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, Homer Electric installed 37 Tesla Megapacks,” explains Tesla.

Soldotna can dip down to -30 F (-34 C) and Tesla says its Megapacks can also operate in freezing temperatures.

Last November, the first Tesla Supercharger went online in Soldotna, offer four stalls with up to 250kW charging speeds (V3).
