SpaceX Falcon 9 to Launch Another Inmarsat Satellite into Orbit in 2023

After SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket successfully landed for the 11th time straight in a Starlink satellite launch, the company is apparently set to launch cargo for another satellite company.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket is set to launch Inmarsat’s I-6 F2 satellite in Q1 2023, following a launch of the company’s first I-6 satellite just a few months ago, according to a press release.

The news comes after SpaceX also launched the Inmarsat I-6 F1 mission, launched with the Falcon 9 booster in December.

The satellite is set to enter service in early 2023, and will feature a geostationary orbit pattern 36,000km (22,000 miles) above the Indian Ocean.

In the release, Inmarsat CEO Rajeev Suri said, “SpaceX is a valued launch partner for Inmarsat having successfully launched GX-4 in 2017. Their innovative reusable launch vehicle model supports Inmarsat’s commitment to drive sustainability throughout our supply chain and operations. The use of flight proven boosters and fairing for this launch demonstrate the drive to further sustainability in space operations.”

Inmarsat’s Orchestra dynamic mesh network will include a layered orbital approach, with the I-6 satellites offering the company’s first dual-band satellites with both Elera and Global Xpress payloads.

SpaceX has used the Falcon 9 booster for various missions the past several years, including the Transporter-3 mission launched in January.
