Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas Has Model Y Long Range Cars Under Wraps
After leaked videos showed Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas in full swing earlier this week, outdoor parking lots at the site appear to be gearing up for some deliveries.
A number of Tesla Model Y Long Range compact crossover SUVs were spotted at Gigafactory Texas, shared in photos by drone videographer Jeff Roberts (@peterdog15) on Thursday.
The photos depict two groups of Model Y units covered by protective tarps in a delivery lot at the newly-constructed Texas facility in Austin.
You can tell these are Model Y Long Range versions based on the exposed 19-inch Gemini wheels with wheel covers in the photos. Many suspect these cars may be ready for delivery, considering they are under covers, seen as an effort to protect the exterior paint of the vehicles.
The pictures seem to corroborate a rumor from last month saying that Tesla would be delivering its first Giga Texas units at the end of the first quarter.
In addition, Tesla Model Y units were spotted being carried away from Giga Texas on a delivery truck earlier this week.
The first deliveries from Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas will also be Model Y units with 4680 battery packs, as confirmed last month by CEO Elon Musk.
Tesla shared photos inside both Gigafactory Texas and Berlin last month, showing off the high technology in each of the facilities.
While a Tesla Cybertruck prototype was seen at Gigafactory Texas last month, Musk confirmed that it won’t launch in 2022, citing chip supply issues and demand, and saying the vehicle would “hopefully” come in 2023.
