Mississauga Transit Orders 165 Hybrid-Electric Buses from New Flyer
Buses are increasingly being ordered with electric vehicle (EV) features in varying capacities, and one Canadian company has just secured a new order for a lowered-emission hybrid fleet of buses.
Winnipeg-based NFI won a contract to deliver 165 New Flyer Xcelsior hybrid-electric buses, according to a press release shared on Tuesday.
The order comes from Mississauga, Ontario municipal transit organization MiWay, which offers up more than 55 million rides per year.

The buses include 127 units in a 40-foot configuration, with another 38 units in a 60-foot configuration.
Each of the buses includes a Modular Accessory Power System (MAPS) layout and a GPS navigation system for maximizing low-emission efficiency.
North American Bus and Coach President Chris Stoddart said, “Our partnership with MiWay spans 45 years, having delivered 550 buses since 1976. Today, we continue to support MiWay in its transition to cleaner transportation by leveraging hybrid-electric mobility that will immediately reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the greater Mississauga community.”
MiWay operates a fleet of about 500 buses, offering a total of 55 million rides per year.
New Flyer has also partnered with cities in the U.S., including Knoxville, Tennessee and New York City, among others.
Last year, Canada’s Infrastructure Bank also announced new funding for 4,000 electric school buses in Quebec.
