Canada to Invest $1 Million for Up to 200 EV Chargers in the Yukon

The Canadian government has announced it will invest $1 million CAD ($786,370 USD) to install up to 200 electric vehicle chargers in the Yukon, funded through the Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).

After a selection of charging locations, EV chargers will be installed in public places, multi-unit residential buildings, on streets, at workplaces or facilities for servicing light-duty vehicle fleets throughout Yukon by March 31, 2023, says the federal government.

“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more accessible for Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Investing in more charging stations, like the ones announced today in the Yukon, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future and help achieve our climate goals,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, in a statement.

Canada says its investments in charging infrastructure to date, will result in over 25,200 new chargers available to EV owners in the country, while over 125,000 Canadians and businesses have taken advantage of federal EV rebates.

Last week, the federal government said it would invest $283,500 CAD into EnviroCentre and $225,000 CAD into Plug’n Drive, to further educate residents in Ontario about electric vehicles and benefits.
