Tesla has plans to lease a parking lot from the city of Lathrop, California to support employees of its upcoming production facility in the city.

Last week, Lathrop City Council voted to approve the leasing of a nine-acre lot to Tesla as a parking lot for employees of the nearby Megafactory, according to the Manteca Bulletin.

Tesla will only be charged an astounding $1 per year for the lot, although the company’s expected to bring in several jobs.

In a recent report for City Council, Lathrop officials wrote, “Tesla’ s presence in Lathrop promotes growth throughout the City by providing jobs, and tax revenue.” The report continued, “The manufacturing facility at 700 D’ Arcy will create roughly 1,500 jobs in the City as well as additional tax revenue and therefore staff is working to facilitate the maximum operation by providing a parking solution for Tesla employees.”

Upon completion, the Megafactory in Lathrop is predicted to employ about 1,500 workers, according to the note.

The lot is located just off of Lathrop’s Christopher Way, beside a city wastewater plant, not far from the under-construction Tesla Megapack facility on D’Arcy Parkway.

Tesla broke ground on the Lathrop Megafactory in September, though it isn’t yet clear when it’s expected to be completed.
