Elon Musk Calls Out UN Director Over Solving World Hunger

Tesla and SpaceX head Elon Musk has been known for throwing his weight around on Twitter, and in a recent exchange, Musk said he would give $6 billion USD to end world hunger immediately if the asking party could detail in “open-source” terms how he could do it.

On Sunday, a CNN news headline claimed that 2 percent of Elon Musk’s wealth could solve world hunger as stated by the World Food Program’s Director David Beasley, according to @Dr. Eli David, who pointed out that the WFP raised $8.4 billion USD in 2020 without solving world hunger.

@Musk responded by saying that if the “WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.”

In response to Musk’s message, the Chief of the UN’s WFP @David Beasley clarified that, while $6 billion USD will not end world hunger, it could help “prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and 42 million people on the brink of starvation.” In addition, Beasley added that he could be on the next flight to Musk to talk about the issue.

In another response, @Musk encouraged Beasley to publish the UN WFP’s current and proposed spending so that people could see where the money goes, to which Beasley responded, “Instead of tweets, allow me to show you,” saying the two could meet in person on Earth or in space to look over the WFP’s open books.

No plan was officially shared via the Twitter thread, following the exchange.
