First Drive: 2022 Lucid Air ‘Dream Edition R’ Called ‘Mic Drop’ by Motortrend
As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to make their way into the driveways and garages of the average household, competition is set to increase drastically for Tesla in the years to come, especially with companies like Lucid set to release their first EVs this and next year.
Motortrend took its first drive in the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range (R) and released a review on Wednesday, calling the drive with the electric sedan “an absolute mic drop.”
The Dream Edition Lucid Air R features 933 horsepower and a range of over 500 miles, while the second Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance (P) features over 450 miles of range, with 1,111 horsepower – both of which cost the same price.
The Lucid Air includes three separate drive modes, entitled Smooth, Swift, and Sprint. While the Smooth driving mode reduces the motor’s functionality to just 670 horsepower, Swift and Sprint modes offer 804 and 933 horsepower, respectively.

Reservations for the Lucid Air surpassed 10,000 units in June, with the company also opening a storefront in New York City. The company only allowed for 500 reservations of the launch model, the Lucid Air Dream Edition – which sold out shortly after launch.
At a base price of $170,500 USD for the Lucid Air Dream Edition, and with a 0 to 60 of about 2.5 seconds, there’s more than just one reason why Motortrend is calling this a fantastic machine, and saying that it is “absolutely a threat to Tesla and other luxury carmakers.”
However, as it stands, many EV enthusiasts await Lucid Motors to start delivering its first Lucid Air cars, and whether the company can produce high volumes of its vehicles.
