Tesla Model S Plaid Goes 0-60mph in 1.99 Seconds on the Street [VIDEO]

Tesla’s Model S Plaid has been the source of a lot of internet attention since its debut at the Model S Plaid Delivery Event in June, largely due to its insanely quick acceleration capabilities.

On Sunday, DragTimes shared a new video in which the host’s Model S Plaid achieved an impressive 1.99-second 0 to 60 mph speed, just barely slower than a 1.98-second 0 to 60 run in an independent test that it’s become acclaimed for – which was performed on a performance drag strip.

The testing also saw the Model S Plaid hit a 9.23 second 1/4 mile at 152 mph (244 kph) on a street surface.

This test from DragTimes, however, was not performed on a drag strip and simply took place on a regular street surface. Obviously, any sort of high-speed car testing should be done on the track, but it appears DragTimes did testing at night on a deserted highway.

According to the video’s description, the video takes place soon after the host took delivery of the Tesla Model S Plaid, and it also shows footage of the host bringing the car to Hughes Detailing and having XPEL Paint Protection applied to the exterior.

The Tesla Model S Plaid features different acceleration modes, including the Plaid Mode that’s utilized in this video. Each mode features a different performance archetype, with the fastest being Plaid. The electric sedan’s Plaid mode features battery pre-warming for quick launches, called Drag Strip mode, while the car also lowers its front end to prepare for quick acceleration, entitled Cheetah mode.
