Tesla started rolling out its 2021.4.18.2 software update on Saturday to owners in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
According to the 2021.4.18.2 release notes shared by NotaTeslaApp, this update for the Model 3 and Model Y introduces the cabin camera for tracking driver attention when Autopilot is engaged.
“The cabin camera above your rearview mirror can now detect and alert driver inattentiveness while Autopilot is engaged,” explains the update.
“Camera data does not leave the car itself, which means the system cannot save or transmit information unless data shared is enabled. To change your data settings, tap Controls > Safety & Security > Data Sharing on your car’s touchscreen,” says the Tesla release notes for 2021.4.18.2.
For new Model 3 and Model Y deliveries that do not include radar, but instead rely on Tesla Vision, or a camera-based version of Autopilot, the cabin camera is enabled to tracker driver attentiveness when Autopilot is engaged.
We saw the cabin camera update for these radar-less Model 3 and Model Y vehicles running software update 2021.4.15.11, in late May.
