Subaru Solterra Electric SUV Hits the U.S. in 2022
Subaru has shared the concept for its very first electric SUV, and interested consumers can now sign up to receive updates for the vehicle’s production through the company’s website.
On Tuesday, Subaru announced the 2023 Solterra electric SUV, which will be built on the e-Subaru Global Platform, its all-new electric vehicle (EV) architecture, according to a release teaser page on its website (via Car and Driver).
The 2023 Subaru Solterra will go on sale in U.S. markets in 2022 with a standard all-wheel-drive variant, and will share its platform with the Toyota bZ4x.
While Subaru has yet to reveal a price for the Solterra SUV, it shared that it will include “state-of-the-art safety technology,” perhaps referring to upcoming advanced driver assistant systems (ADASs) from the company.

The only other detail of note Subaru shared in the release teaser was that the Solterra’s name refers to a combination of the Latin words for “sun” and “Earth,” emphasizing the EV’s environmentally responsible engineering and its lack of carbon emissions.
In February, Toyota launched its bZ4x EV platform with plans to announce two EVs – both of which have since been announced in some capacity. Sharing a platform with the Subaru Solterra, the Toyota X Prologue sedan, and a BZ4x SUV concept with a yoke-steering wheel.
