SpaceX Doge-1 Launch Will Be First Crypto and Meme in Space, Touts Elon Musk
One day after calling Dogecoin a “hustle” on SNL, Elon Musk’s SpaceX surprised everyone by announcing it now accepts the ‘joke’ cryptocurrency as a form of payment for SpaceX.
In Q1 2022, Canada’s Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) says SpaceX will launch its DOGE-1 Mission to the moon. The satellite mission was paid for by GEC in Dogecoin to SpaceX and later this afternoon, Elon Musk touted the milestones of this historic launch.
“SpaceX launching satellite Doge-1 to the moon next year,” said Musk, while also adding “to the moon!”, a double entendre to represent the lunar launch, and the expression used for cryptocurrencies to suggest a strong rise in price soon.
Musk also linked to the unofficial ‘Dogecoin Song’ on YouTube:
SpaceX launching satellite Doge-1 to the moon next year
– Mission paid for in Doge
– 1st crypto in space
– 1st meme in spaceTo the mooooonnn!!https://t.co/xXfjGZVeUW

Dogecoin was sent tumbling after Musk’s hosting of SNL but has since recovered somewhat to now trade at $0.55 USD, still down 15% for the day.
