Tesla Model 3 Dominates EV Sales in France for March 2021
Battery electric vehicles (BEV) rose 183% year-over-year (YoY) in the French electric vehicle (EV) market in March, and leading the charge, perhaps unsurprisingly, was the Tesla Model 3.
According to EV Sales, the Tesla Model 3 sold 4,524 units in March 2021, making up nearly 9% of the country’s EV market share. Following behind Tesla’s flagship sedan were Peugeot models 208 EV and the 3008 plugin hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), with 1,667 and 1,571 units sold, respectively.

The next three positions on France’s best-seller EV list from March are all from Renault, and they include models Zoe, Captur PHEV, and the Twingo EV, selling totals of 1,519 units, 1,158 units, and 1,114 units, respectively.
Remarkably, the Tesla Model 3 had dropped off France’s top 20 best-selling entirely in January, before launching far past Volkswagen’s ID.3 in February and barely squeezing by Renault’s models in the same month to land just behind the Peugeot 208 EV for the month’s second best-selling EV spot.
In that time, however, the Tesla Model 3 also managed to land the best-selling spot in all of the first quarter of 2021, emphasizing how much the company’s production accelerates in the latter part of each quarter.
Similarly, the Tesla Model 3 led both European and global EV sales in February 2021, and with many months left to go and the expected completion of Gigafactory Berlin this summer, it seems that Tesla is just getting started.
