Mattel Unveils Tesla Roadster Die-Cast Car Made from 99% Recycled Materials

Mattel has unveiled its Matchbox Tesla Roadster toy, what it says is its first die-cast car made from 99% recycled materials.
The Tesla Roadster is the first die-cast vehicle to follow Mattel’s goal of having its entire Matchbox toy lineup and packaging made from 100% recycled or recyclable or bio-based plastic by 2030, which is the same for the rest of its toy line up.

This new Roadster is certified CarbonNeutral and will be available in 2022, says Mattel.
“Since the inception of the modern-day die-cast car nearly 70 years ago, Matchbox has been using design and innovation to connect kids with the real world around them through play,” said Roberto Stanichi, Global Head of Vehicles at Mattel, in a statement.

Mattel says the first die-cast vehicle to have zero-plastic packaging includes the popular Matchbox Power Grabs assortment. It features an electric vehicle-themed five-pack, with 1:64 scan Matchbox die-cast vehicles, while the inner tray is now paper foam.

featuring a variety of licensed and original 1:64 scale Matchbox die-cast vehicles, while an EV-themed five-pack is now available with a paper foam inner tray.
“Matchbox is committing to using 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials to do our part in addressing the environmental issues we face today, and empower the next generation of Matchbox fans to help steer us towards a sustainable future,” added Stanichi.
