Tesla Customers Double-Charged for Cars, Still Waiting for Refunds

After purchasing brand new Tesla cars, three residents of Southern California were charged twice by Tesla’s website, according to CNBC. Since being double-charged, Clark Peterson, Christopher T. Lee, and Tom Slattery saw tens of thousands of dollars leave their bank accounts, and are now furiously trying to get their money back.

CNBC went back to review motor vehicle purchase records, corresponding with Tesla’s records and bank statements to verify the reports.

There were also two others who were double-charged in the incident who asked CNBC to remain anonymous. Alongside overdraft fees and other financial strife, the others are also scrambling in hopes to get a refund from Tesla.

The new Tesla Model Ys ranged in amounts charged to each individual’s account, starting as low as $37,000 for one customer, and as much as $71,000 for a Model Y crossover SUV with all premium features.

Another Tesla customer accidentally made a $4,280 purchase of Tesla’s Autopilot upgrade late last year, and was also forced to wait before receiving a refund.

After five days of waiting for a refund, Tom Slattery is refusing to accept the delivery of his family’s original 2021 Model Y, which has also yet to be delivered.

Despite no plans to abandon Tesla once the issue is resolved, Slattery said, “It’s hard to imagine sales and service getting worse. I had almost $53,000 unauthorized stolen from my bank account. And nobody, nobody has called me, emailed me, there’s no sense of urgency in resolving this.”
