The Canadian federal government announced on Tuesday more electric vehicle chargers are coming to the province of Manitoba.
Natural Resources Canada will invest $155,000 CAD to Eco-West Canada to install 31 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers, located in Winnipeg and other rural municipalities in southern Manitoba.
“We are giving Canadians the greener options they want to get to where they need to go. This is how we get to net zero by 2050,” said Seamus O’Regan Jr., Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources.
Eco-West Canada and other municipalities will also invest in the project, taking the total cost to $365,000 CAD ($292,850 USD).
The government hopes these new EV chargers will encourage Canadians to adopt zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Federal funding for these chargers comes from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Canada hopes to have all new vehicles sold in the country to be ZEVs by 2040.
