Tesla’s Canadian Prices Don’t Reflect Current Exchange Rates, Say Owners

Tesla’s prices can vary significantly around the world depending on export needs, currency exchange rates, and a number of other related factors. Still, the price for many outside the company’s home country, the US, is becoming hard for buyers to justify comparatively.

On Monday, one Reddit user shared a price comparison photo between the Model 3 Standard Range Plus prices in Canada vs. the US. The photo, as shared by Reddit user u/kwright88 on the Tesla Motors subreddit, shows the model costs an astonishing $52,990 (USD) in Canada, while costing only $37,990 (USD) in the company’s home market in the US.

Taking into consideration current exchange rates, the Model 3 SR+ should cost just under $48,000 CAD, but there’s nearly a $5,000 CAD difference.

Without a value-added tax, onlookers can add a little bit to the US price depending which state the Tesla is sold on, in order to account for sales tax.

Needless to say, Canada is probably due for some price drops to come, hopefully within the year. While the difference in price still pales in comparison to even higher costs in places like Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, Canada is close enough to the US that it’s hard to see what factors may be affecting these prices.
