Texas was battling a winter storm on Sunday and the situation was exacerbated on Monday, when the state’s power grid failed systemwide, leaving millions without power.

However, one homeowner @dayyanl with solar panels on their roof and Tesla Powerwalls demonstrated life as usual, showing a blacked-out neighbourhood and then their house lit up. It’s one giant commercial for Tesla right now during a time of crisis.

According to @dayyanl, the owner said “$TSLA power walls saving the day in Houston.” The user said neighbours are “jealous” they are still able to heat their home and have electricity.

Update Feb. 18: @dayyanl tells Tesla North he’s located in Pearland, Texas. He says he still has power versus the neighborhood and “power lasted all night and charged up during the day.” He explained he has three power walls and is getting 9kW from panels.

Tesla’s Powerwall stores energy from your solar panels or the grid and “detects outages and automatically becomes your home’s energy source when the grid goes down,” says the company.

“Unlike generators, Powerwall keeps your lights on and phones charged without upkeep, fuel or noise. Pair with solar and recharge with sunlight to keep your appliances running for days,” explains Tesla’s website.

Many on Twitter are saying they are going to get solar panels and Powerwalls due to the SNAFU in the state.

As of Tuesday morning, it’s estimated nearly 1.4 million customers of CenterPoint Energy do not have power, and rolling outages will continue.
