On early Tuesday morning, Tesla released its 2020.48.35.7 software update for Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta testers.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously said there would be a new naming convention for FSD beta, and this latest version is now seen as 8.1, to better match the company’s internal numbering scheme. It’s not a downgrade, just a number change.
If you’ve ever wondered how FSD beta performs on snow streets, Tesla FSD beta tester Frenchie on YouTube has shared an 11-minute clip, to demonstrate what happens.
As expected, FSD beta does have difficulty in snowy conditions in Chicago, Illinois. It was a dicey video as FSD beta takes snowy tire tracks into consideration and has trouble driving itself, compared to the sunny streets in California. On multiple times, FSD beta veers into the oncoming lane for no reason.
Overall, it’s an interesting video to see how FSD beta is trying to interpret snowy conditions. Definitely more time is needed for FSD beta in snow—maybe it should come to Canada already?
