2021 Tesla Model 3 Glass Tint Transmittance Rates

If you’ve ever wondered how much glass tint there is on 2021 Tesla Model 3 windows, we have some details.

A user on Reddit has shared factory glass tint amounts for the 2021 Tesla Model 3 in the Tesla Motors subreddit, as measured in California, with a Linsheng LS162 transmission meter.

The details below, as measured and shared by Reddit user u/JigglymoobsMWO, show an average visible transmittance of the front side windows between 82 and 83 percent, and between 77 and 78 percent for the rear side windows.

The vehicles measured were all 2021 Tesla Model 3s located in the automaker’s home state of California, and with VINs 869XXX. Those included in the chart also have an infrared rejection index (heat rejection) of 77 to 78 percent in the front windows and 80 percent in the back windows.

In addition, the UVA blockage from a factory tint on the front windows is 100%, while the rear windows range from 60 to 62 percent.

While the light meter used by the Reddit user was only capable of measuring the front and rear side windows, instead of the windshield or center rear glass, it’s still a useful set of metrics to be aware of.

Users in California and beyond can take these metrics to help them determine what tints they should go with, when it comes to reducing glare and heat transmission in their Tesla Model 3s.

In any case, regardless of the amount of window tint the factory puts on your Tesla, the use of a zero-emissions vehicle helps push the world closer to a future of sustainable transportation, and thus should be celebrated.
