Tesla Autopilot’s Monthly Progress in 2020 Detailed [VIDEO]

Tesla’s Autopilot driver-assistance system went through a lot of changes in 2020, though it’s easy to forget how far the technology has actually come in that short time.

In a video uploaded Thursday by YouTube channel Tesla Driver, the host shares month-to-month footage of the Tesla Autopilot system, noting small changes that happened throughout the year. In the video, we get to experience the infancy of the Autopilot system, from a time even before it could pick up on traffic lights and stop signs.

By the time the video hits December, we can see the skilled Full Self-Driving (FSD) system at work, with only a few interventions taken by the driver. Ultimately, the move from regular Autopilot to the FSD system in October shows a major improvement, and we can see the system improve even further in the last few months of the year.

While FSD is still in a limited beta mode, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is pretty confident that the service will release publicly through a subscription model in early 2021. With Tesla offering a free 3-month FSD trial to deliveries in the final days of 2020, we may see the subscription model start after the first quarter of this year.

For as far as Autopilot and FSD have come last year, 2021 will bring new levels of precision, safety, and maybe even comfort with a new, chaperoned robotaxi service.
