Canada to Install 23 EV Chargers in Ottawa River Valley Area [Update]

The Government of Canada has announced 23 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers are coming to Pembroke, Ontario, in the Ottawa River Valley Area.

These chargers will be installed by Ottawa River Energy Solutions, based in Pembroke, as part of a $100,000 CAD investment. The move is to encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles, part of the federal government’s ambitious plan to have all new cars be emission-free by 2040.

“We are providing greener options for Canadians to get where they need to go. This is how we get to net zero by 2050,” said Seamus O’Regan, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, in a statement.

The government says it plans to invest a further $150 million into its zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) uptake program over the next three years, beginning in 2021-22, for infrastructure and an extra $287 million for vehicle purchase incentives.

“Ottawa River Energy Solutions is pleased to be working with NRCAN to invest in green energy infrastructure and deliver a project that will bring ZEV charging stations to rural communities in Ontario,” added Justin Allen, President – Ottawa River Energy Solutions.

Update: In addition, a $495,000 investment for Saint John Energy will help build 99 electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers across the Maritimes.

Also, the Town of Antigonish “is also contributing $47,955 to the project. Additional contributors and site locations include the City of Edmundston, the Village of Perth-Andover, the Town of Mahone Bay, the Town of Berwick and the City of Summerside. With the federal funding, the total cost of the project is $1,138,689,” reads a press release.
