A post on Reddit has verified that a heated steering wheel may well be coming soon.

The post, as shared by user u/enjoyvelvet on the Tesla Motors subreddit, shows an on-screen message on the owner’s infotainment system which states it “failed to turn on steering wheel heater.” To this, the owner responds with a caption we were all thinking, writing, “So are you saying I ‘have’ a heated steering wheel in my Y?”

The Model Y in question is a March 2020 build with the VIN series 10xx. In the comments, other users shared that recent rumors held a heated steering wheel in the 2021 refreshed models for Model 3, as an aforementioned “holiday update” from Tesla. According to the comments, the feature would be activated with a future software update, which many believe will require an in-app purchase.

We need someone to cut up their 2021 Model 3 and Model Y refresh steering wheels already to see what’s inside, am I right?

To support the claim, CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted that the Tesla holiday software release is fire, which could definitely be referring to a heated steering wheel, and would make a lovely holiday gift for all cold-weather dwellers.

In any case, a heated steering wheel would seriously up the luxury feel of the Tesla, while providing an especially cozy comfort to your hands during those cold, wintry drives. But without a heated steering wheel, you can still warm up your Tesla using the mobile app before you enter–just aim the vents at your steering wheel.
