Tesla Model 3 Sound Issue: No Fix Yet, Only Promise of Firmware Update
As a brand, Tesla is no stranger to bugs or design flaws. Still, seeing certain recurring bugs, especially those that place the driver in danger, can make any electric vehicle (EV) enthusiast’s blood boil.
For one specific example, Tesla owners are seeing a recurring bug where the sound of anything within the car does not work, along with the microphone and the dash cam.
A video shared to Reddit’s Tesla Motors subreddit Tuesday by user u/Spooky_Ghost depicts the problem, which, in this owner’s case, can be temporarily fixed by opening the door getting up, getting back into the car, and closing the door again.

In addition to the annoying quick-fix the owner says he has encountered 100 times, he has also replaced his Tesla’s computer, replaced the OHC and audio amplifier in the car, and gone from HW2.5 to HW3, with no improvement. While the company says it’s simply a “firmware issue” which will be fixed at a later date, the bug has been happening for well over a year for a number of customers, and Tesla has made no mention of the flaw or fixing it.
While Tesla continues to improve its designs, software, and other related prevention opportunities for bugs, it will likely have a number of flaws it needs to fix such as this one. Maybe Tesla should even consider dedicating more staff and company time to fixing these bugs to help maintain its position in the EV market, bolster its relationships with customers and fans, and, ultimately, to replace its apparently-pointless PR team which no longer exists.
