Tesla Hardware 3 Retrofits, FSD Upgrades Starting in Europe Confirms Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed hardware retrofits and Full Self-Driving upgrades are starting in Europe.

When asked by a European Tesla owner, “Can you give a starting date for hw3 retrofit for model 3 in Europe? Patiently waiting.”

Musk replied, “Should be happening soon.”

So far, only Tesla owners in Canada and the U.S. have been able to upgrade the hardware on their older electric vehicles, to get up to speed with the latest Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features.

For Tesla owners in Europe, getting a Hardware 3 (HW3) retrofit means those that paid for Full Self-Driving will get the latest features owners in North American have been enjoying, such as speed sign recognition, traffic lights and more.

While Musk said Tesla HW3 retrofits “should be happening soon”, Steven Peeters from Belgium shared his hardware 3.0 upgrade and MCU2 upgrade for his Tesla Model S on YouTube.

“Today I finally had my FSD computer upgrade installed, together with the MCU2 upgrade. In this video I talk about what exactly has been done (at least the part that can be publicly shared),” explains Peeters.

“So, not only is the FSD computer replaced in a more or less plug&play fashion, but also both screens in the car have been replaced. The old IC was a separate computer, but now it has become a simple display. All in all it took about 3-3.5 hours to complete and now I can finally start testing all the little gizmos that I’ve been missing for so long,” explained a happy Peeters.
