TeslaFi Back Online with Temporary Fix as Tesla Blocks Cloud Services IPs

Earlier this week, it appears Tesla started to block connections to its API from IP services from major cloud services such as Amazon AWS, Google and Microsoft Azure.

The change meant third party services such as TeslaFi, which tracks vehicle stats for Tesla owners, went down.

TeslaFi shared an update on the situation with Tesla North, pointing to a community forum post. “Tesla appears to have blocked Amazon, Google, and Microsoft’s IP’s from accessing their servers. We don’t believe it was done intentionally to stop third-party services from accessing the API, however, it’s still unknown why this occurred and why it’s continuing to occur.”

The service says it has now issued a temporary fix, “until things return to normal.” TeslaFi says the fix was made on Thursday night “to resume logging and the final touches were made this morning to get things such as Alexa working.”

“Changes were also done to quickly handle any issues like this, should they occur in the future,” added James from TeslaFi. The company says they will continue to monitor the situation until “things return to normal”.

Other data tracker services for Tesla owners such as Teslascope, were similarly affected. The company said on Thursday it also made a temporary fix “to allow for Tesla Account authentication and vehicle polling to resume on our service.”

Tesla owners with their custom TeslaMate trackers on a Raspberry Pi also ran into connection issues with the Tesla API.

It’s unknown why Tesla has blocked all IPs from major cloud services. We’ll find out soon enough.
