SpaceX Crew-1 NASA Mission to ISS Announced for October 23

After SpaceX Crew Dragon’s safe return earlier this month, NASA and SpaceX are riding the momentum in preparation for a historic first mission in the fall.
On Friday, NASA shared details of the upcoming SpaceX Crew-1 mission, which is set to be the first official flight with astronauts in a series of regular, rotational missions to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch is currently set for October 23, and will take place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The team headed for the ISS in the fall includes (from left to right as depicted above) NASA’s Mission specialist Shannon Walker, pilot Victor Glover, Crew Dragon commander Michael Hopkins, and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut and mission specialist Soichi Noguchi. The astronauts will spend six months at the ISS, in a historic first of many upcoming space expeditions.

Alongside the preparations for the historic mission, SpaceX is also preparing the Falcon 9 rocket with, most recently, a successful static fire test of the second stage of the rocket. The test was performed on Tuesday in McGregor, Texas, at the SpaceX facility.
The historic team will continue to prepare up until its fall departure to the orbiting laboratory before it marks a brand new age in the history of space exploration.
