Tesla Asks California Owners to ‘Help Relieve Heat Wave Stress on the Grid’
Tesla has a new custom message for its owners in California, to help the state cope with heat wave stress and rolling electricity blackouts.
A new message seen by Tesla owners in SoCal inside their vehicles reads, “help relieve heat wave stress on the grid.”
The message reads,”The current heat wave is impacting the grid in California. If possible, we ask that you reduce Supercharging and home charging between the hours of 4pm and 9pm to support the statewide efforts to manage demand.”
“Additionally, proactive utility shutoffs may limit charging options. As always, your touchscreen will display live statuses of Superchargers in your area – simply tap on the desired Supercharger station to confirm its availability,” finishes the pop-up message.
The message was shared by u/Timsierramist on Reddit yesterday.
Back on August 15, Tesla CEO Elon Musk retweeted a message detailing Californias electricity woes by pointing followers to Tesla.com/solar.

California ordered its first following blackouts on the weekend since the 2001 U.S. energy crisis. By having solar panels and energy stored in battery packs, Musk says Americans would be able to power themselves independently of local utility companies.
