Watch a Tesla Model 3 Front Trunk Open by Back-Tapping an iPhone [VIDEO]
Apple’s upcoming iOS 14 release, slated for this fall, includes new Accessibility features, including the ability to create custom controls using a ‘Back Tap’ feature.
With iOS 14 beta already out in wild for developers, many are already testing Apple’s newest mobile operating system.
According to Zach (@TeslaTested), the user setup this Accessibility Back Tap feature in iOS 14 and when coupled with the Stats app for Tesla, a shortcut was created to open his front trunk on his Model 3, using aftermarket automatic front lift hood supports.

This back tap shortcut would definitely make it easy when loading groceries into your front trunk, or ‘frunk’. The creator of the Stats app noted, “To avoid false-positives, assign the action to triple-tap and not double-tap. You can also turn on confirmation for the Shortcut.” It’s also possible to setup a Siri Shortcut for this action as well.
To enable Back Tap in iOS 14, just go to Settings > Accessibility, then tap Touch, scroll down and tap Back Tap, then choose either a double or triple tap. You can then link your tap sequence to automations you’ve created using Apple’s Shortcuts app.
